I still remember
watching someone throw a pot on the potter's wheel when
I was 5 years old. It seemed magical to me then and it continues
to be magical for me today. From the first time I sat at
the potter's wheel, I was hooked!
Since then,
I've attended many classes and workshops with clay artists,
including: Silvie Granatelli, Bruce Gholson, Warren Mackenzie,
Michael Simon, Mark Hewitt, Steve Braufman, Ben Owen, Charlie
Riggs, Paul Soldner, David Shaner, Steven Hill, Suzanne
Stephenson, Jeff Oestreich, Tom and Elaine Coleman and Xavier
Gonzales.
I've been teaching
at the Durham Arts Council since 1996. I was invited to
teach two workshops in Walnut Creek, CA in 2000 and 2002.
In 2003, I was invited to show my work in Numazu, Japan.
When I show
my work, I always include "please touch" signs
on my shelves, but I hope that my pots, themselves, invite
touch. Shapes, the feel of the pot, and the color are important
to me. I love making pots and appreciate the fact that people
enjoy owning them!
